Wateringen 2

After my visit to the post office in The Hague I went home quickly to visit the post office in my own village. Some years ago PostNL closed all post offices of its own, apart from one in The Hague and one in Amsterdam, and located them in book stores, supermarkets, cigar shops and even tank stations. In Wateringen the post office moved to Vingerling book store in the center of town.

Wateringen is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Westland, and is located on the southwest border of The Hague. In 1994 a quarter of its area was annexed by The Hague to build a new city district. Until 2004 it was a separate municipality and covered an area of 8,93 km². The former municipality of Wateringen also included the town Kwintsheul. The village of Wateringen has a population of around 10.860. The statistical area Wateringen, which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 13.880. Wateringen has a park in the town center (Hofpark) with an old farmhouse now in use as a cultural center. Other monuments include the windmill Windlust, the old town hall and protestant and catholic churches.
